The 9K33 Osa, designated as the SA-8 Gecko by NATO, is a highly mobile surface-to-air missile system designed for short-range and low-altitude air defense. Developed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s, the Gecko entered service in the early 1970s and has been widely utilized by various military forces.
Known as "Romb" to exporters, the Osa system is recognized for its rapid deployment capabilities and effectiveness in engaging aerial threats.

The SA-8 Gecko was the first air defense missile system to integrate engagement radars onto a single vehicle, showcasing a unique design in military technology. Weighing 17.5 tons, the Gecko requires a crew of five soldiers for operation.
Most of these systems were produced at the Znamya Truda Plant, with approximately 1,200 units manufactured before the Soviet Union's collapse in 1988. This innovative design paved the way for future developments in integrated air defense systems.
